With 1 out of every 59 children in the U.S. (1 out of 37 boys) diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), we all know someone who has been affected. Up 15% from just two years ago, the rate of autism is steadily increasing. These children are struggling with growing up in an environment that is not prepared to handle their unique needs while providing the crucial life skills necessary to prepare them for adult life.
This is where two non-profits, New Vista School (a private school for teens with ASD) and Spirit League (a sports league for children/young adults with ASD), are changing lives every day.
- Because of New Vista School, teens with ASD are able to thrive in a structured educational setting taught with high expectations producing equally high results.
- Because of Spirit League, young athletes with ASD are able to experience the rite of passage provided by team sports; developing both basic game play and social skills.
