New Vista School has adopted the American College Testing (ACT)

This year we are pleased to announce that New Vista School has adopted the American College Testing (ACT) for its school-wide testing and accountability program. Juniors and Seniors will take the ACT on April 9th at one of the ACT’s national testing centers, located here in Orange County. Payment and transportation will be provided by New Vista School. Middle school along with 9th and 10th graders will take the ACT Aspire, during the spring testing window (April 4th through May 26th) here at New Vista.

This year the California Department of Education began its flagship year of its new, state-wide testing program. Much like the public schools, we too had to find a new platform to measure student achievement because our previous test was not aligned to the new Common Core State Standards. We feel that both the ACT and ACT Aspire are the best match for us.

Both the ACT and ACT Aspire results may be used to identify students who need assistance with certain academic skills, to evaluate effectiveness of instruction, to make adjustments to curriculum and to guide student placement. In addition, colleges use ACT scores for admissions decisions, course placement, academic advising, and loans and scholarships.

Both the ACT Aspire and ACT include tests in writing, English, reading, mathematics and science. The reading, mathematics and science assessment test items include multiple choice and constructed response questions. Students will write an essay based on a writing prompt for the test’s writing component. The English section includes only multiple-choice questions.

Because of tracking purposes, some students may also take other standardized tests such as the Terra Nova or KTEA.

  • Attention parents of 11th and 12th graders only: Your student has been enrolled in the ACT for Saturday, April 9th at Saddleback College. As previously mentioned, payment and transportation will be provided. As the date approaches, more information will follow.
