Transition Level 5
This program is for students 18-22+ years old that are working on vocational skills while also concurrently working on academics. Students are able to practice vocational skills for the first half of the day and work on academic and extracurricular classes in the second half of the school day. The desired outcomes for this program are to develop generalized skills to be used in the workplace, build a post graduation community and develop social skills, and learn basic budgeting and life skills. Students work at internships off campus for 4 out of the 5 school days in the week.
Internships
Students build generalized vocational skills by participating in internships with the class. These internships take place throughout the community providing a diverse array of internships. During these vocational experiences, students work on a great deal of soft skills such as:
- Job site knowledge
- Organization
- Attitude
- Quality
- Pace of work
- Dependability
- Responsibility
- Initiative
- Teamwork
- Safety
- Self Presentation
While attending these internships, students are immersed in real world situations and experiences to grow from and allow the teacher to assess the students abilities in the aforementioned areas. Students will also receive jobsite coaching from professionals from the worksite and New Vista School staff members.
On Campus Curriculum
Students will also work on multiple projects and assignments on campus. These projects include subjects such as budgeting, social skills, career training, personal development, and creating a self guided transition plan for themselves.
